50 Favorite Shots

Considering I have nothing much in mind to blog about – mental block and in no mood to date anyone, I thought of putting my bit into celebrating our country’s 50th year of independence, as well as promoting “Visit Malaysia 2007”. Talk about killing two birds with one stone, eh? (Well,I am doing this as I think we all need something a little more optimistic during these trying times – just look at the daily local news.. geezz)

I have done a bit of traveling the past few years around Malaysia and had some pictures to share. I have been to almost every state – yes, some were merely passing by or staying over a night on my yesteryears’ working trips. I had been to both Sabah and Sarawak. I wish I had a digital camera then.

This would highlight a journey of my “digital story” and how much practice indeed makes perfect. I remember my brother trashing my earlier taken photos! The 50 favorite shots may not be the best pictures, but they sort of recorded a “transition”. I am delighted with the invention of digital cameras! It helps to record one’s journey of life in all magnificent colors.

Every picture tells a story. Here, I present to you my 50 favorite shots taken around Malaysia. I believe most of you have seen some of the pics if you have been following this blog (old and new) since day one. For the benefit of people who haven’t, I would link previous posts to each picture.

It would either be a 10 or 15 part stories – I don’t know coz I am such a chaotic planner!

Well, Happy Merdeka, fellow Malaysians. We hope that this beautiful country would continue to be harmonious and realizing all of us are co-dependent. I hope that one day we all would be treated as equals, rather than being segregated according to our ethnicity.

PS. The Tourism Ministry should pay me for doing their job!

#1 Lights at the End of the World. Pulau Kukup, Johor. A commercial fishing village. Residents’ houses will be converted to guest houses come weekends. For a mere RM60 (depending on number of people joining you on this trip – I was with about 8 people) for two days and one night stay, we were given tea break of fried mee hoon, doughnuts and bottomless milo and tea, a BBQ seafood dinner, supper of nasi lemak, morning breakfast of nasi lemak or fried mee hoon, and 12 dishes for lunch, plus a boat trip to the fish kelong. I like this photo because it reminded me of happiest time when I was with friends from TAR College. Never mind the shakey hands!

#2 Capricorn? Taken this in Mr Kamal’s Goat Farm in Batu Arang. Unfortunately, the place had ceased operation. It’s a shame because it was such a good place to bring friends and family for a weekend outing.

#3 Point of View, Perhentian Islands. My first fiddling attempt to create “arty picture”. LOL. I know.. this failed miserably but I like this shot.

#4 Water of Life. Semenyih Dam, Semenyih. This is where we all get our water supplies. It was a quiet and deserted place, leading to even a quieter and deserted place – the Organic Farm! *Shudders* Wonder if it still exists!

#5 All in a day’s work. Chamang Waterfalls, Bentong, Pahang. How this fella managed to search for food in heaps of dried leaves is beyond me. Nature’s wonder.

  1. I really enjoyed this and look forward to future segments. Having been bitten witha Malaysian addiction I am often frustrated. It is difficult to find any decent information about Malaysia over here. I learn more from bloggers such as yourself. Thanks. :)

And bloggers should get paid for the Tour Malaysia 2007. I have seen two ads over here this entire year. Once at the Hyatt Columbus last month and earlier today on my IM window.

Can hardly wait to see the next entry. Wishing you and all of your countrymen a wonderful unified Merdeka celebration.

SA: Woahhh.. that would be a burden on my shoulder since you said so. Hahah! If you ask me, I would probably find it easier to tell you how to get around Siem Reap or Phnom Penh in Cambodia better than my own country!

If you wish to travel to Malaysia, it’s quite easy as almost everyone speaks English. Just that you have to be aware of people trying to make more money out of you since you are white and foreign. To make things even much more simpler, I suggest you ask a friend to take you around Malaysia. It would be a trip with a local touch.

Haha. I hope I don’t disappoint you in any way. I apologize first for lack of details in my travel posts.

  4. haha I was not even thinking of this posts as a travel blog. I only thought of it as photos that meant Malaysia to you. Which is what I like to see. The Malaysian view of their homeland.

I have so many friends in Malaysia now that are waiting to take me around. No problem visiting the best places for shopping, fun, and of course makan stands. I know they can fill in the details for me on any locale I wish to visit. No pressure on you la.

Do you mind if I tell other bloggers what you are doing with this series. It may increase your traffic which can be good and bad. But if you don’t want the promotion I will not of course.

Would like to exchange links too.

SA: I am doing this as I hit a deadlock of what to write about – trying not to be overly sensitive about political issues – I never like politics. I wish people could see that this beautiful country needs to be preserved. Most are pics taken from my trips around Malaysia and I am glad to say, Malaysia has it all to offer when it comes to traveling. Just a bit sad that they don’t improve some facilities here to encourage people to come. Most travelers come here to see the happy side of Malaysia. But every country has some dirt to dig. You get what I mean?

I thought you just said in the PPP comment -I should not be a popular blogger? Hahahahah!!! The reason that I change my blog address is because I don’t want some other people to read, since they have no life that they have to talk about mine over coffee.

Tough decisions. You may link me as I have linked you. :) Link me as anigma, please. I think I will pass on this one. Thanks for the generous thought though. I would like to keep this as private as I can be for some friends and regular readers.

  6. Malaysia’s beauty has totally addicted me. It is funny when I went to college I had a lot of Malaysia class mate, even dated a ethnic Chinese from Penang. But I took their English speaking for granted. Figured they were in the states because they were well educated and well to do parents. Never considered the lingering British English speaking legacy at that time. My two years of blogging opened up my eyes.

If I had learned this sooner I might have been to Malaysia 20 years ago. haha

I sure did write that. *scratches head* Sure is not what I intended to say in retrospect. Is lookind like an idiot one of the early signs if Alzheimer’s disease. I just meant the change in blog addresses could decrease your traffic, which appears to be case from what you wrote. I apologise for being unclear and insulting you. Cause it does read badly.

Thanks for letting me link. And I can understand the reason to lay low.

Kleio: Thanks for the compliment! You always have the nicest things to say about me. :)

SA: A lot of foreigners love our country as it is hot and wet the whole year through. You basically can travel anywhere in just t shirts and shorts. And if you are in college with a lot of Malaysians, expect a lot of cooking and makan-makan together. Penang girls, huh? I bet they are hot! Haha.

Haha! No, I know it must be some sort of a mangled meaning but you are not insulting me! I am joking!

The reason why I want to lay low… would be revealed in the last instalment of this series. It’s going to be hilarious. Haha! Thanks for dropping by.
